Well it’s Friday, and the end of Randy Orton week! It’s been one hell of a ride, and there’s so much untapped potential left, but I have to save something for next year. If I’ve learned one thing though, it’s that Randy’s tattoos make no sense and are impossible to draw. Aaand another thing is that it’s worth trying in order to draw Randy in party hats. The process of THQ having a big event for revealing information about the most recent Smackdown vs. Raw game always has the same effect on me. First, an overall feeling of apathy, considering 90% of the game is the same as the year before. Then, I see a countdown clock on a website somewhere and roll my eyes, wondering who actually gets excited about it. Then throughout the rest of the week the clock keeps counting down IN MY BRAIN as I gradually grow more and more curious as to the details of the game, like whether or not certain wrestlers made it in. Of course Alberto Del Rio isn’t going to be in, but Drew McIntyre? The Nexus? Daniel Bryan? Then by the time the day comes I can’t think of anything else! …Then I see the new information, remember it’s 90% of the same as before, and forget about it. …Well, until the game comes out and then I must have it!
I went through the same process yesterday as THQ announced the roster for Smackdown vs. Raw 2011. Actually, some things about the game sound pretty cool to me, like the WWE Universe mode and the free roaming backstage environments. However, I was disappointed to see Nexus members not available until the holiday season (although I’m sure that was out of their hands), and Layla only available through DLC. She’s the Women’s Champion!
Anyway, while waiting I thought up some ideas for Randy Orton themed spin-off games, should the WWE ever want to go in that direction. Kind of like Sub-Zero’s spin off game from Mortal Kombat. Randy’s not the most diverse guy out there, but I think he could star in a variety of game genres.

I wanted this week to be all about Randy Orton, but I have to mention how terrible the NXT Season 3 premiere was! When I think about the WWE product, I usually think of it as something that has a lot of time and effort put into it, good or bad. Like even with the guest host segments, I know there’s probably a good amount of work that went into making them happen, and I can appreciate that even if the end result is terrible to watch (for example, the A-Team segments).
This last episode of NXT changed that. I used to think of wrestlers as a fairly prestigious bunch, but now I feel like if I was a woman I could get a boob job and have a pretty decent chance at making it as a diva. I don’t want to sound harsh to everyone on the show, as a couple of the girls were good, but I’d rather just wait for Naomi or AJ to come to Raw or Smackdown than watch them go through the same, tired dance segments through the season. I’m convinced now that Aloisia will be showing up sooner or later, as the reasons given for her being “fired” (being too green, suggestive photos) apply to almost all the other divas.
And speaking of NXT, Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz for the US Title ensures that I’ll get Night of Champions! Their feud on NXT Season 1 was one of my favorite things WWE has done this year, and I’m glad to see it culminate in this match. Now I just hope the match gets more than ten minutes.
Oh, and for Randy Orton?
