Quick Update-

on August 31, 2008 at 10:40 am

Hey everybody,

Sorry about the late post for yesterday!  There were a few things that led to it, like the end of summer quarter, the end of my internship, and moving, but mainly it was that Vickie Guerrero is REALLY hard to draw.  Like really.

Thoughts of Summerslam, August 16th 2008

on August 16, 2008 at 12:55 pm

Hey Everyone,

SUMMERSLAM PREDICTIONS!  Let’s get right into it-

MVP vs. Jeff Hardy

I’m thinking Hardy on this one, but I’m not betting money on it.  For either one, I can’t imagine them challenging for the WWE Title by Wrestlemania, and I think the US title is a little beneath them at this point.  I’m mainly guessing a face win because I see this being an early bout to get the crowd in a good mood for the night.

Winners Take All Tag Match

While I like Kofi and love Mickie, there is no one even close to as entertaining as Santino Marella right now on RAW.  I think the interaction with Beth and him has been great thus far, and for me the big question on the outcome of this match isn’t which team will win the titles, but which title Santino and Beth will get.  I’m thinking Santino will get his wish and become Santino Marella, Women’s Champion by the end of the show!

Mark Henry vs. Matt Hardy

I’m thinking Henry will win this one, and while I haven’t been the most faithful ECW viewer as of late, I think the show’s kind of spinning it’s wheels right now and it just seems easier to have a big ol’ heel as champ than shake things up with a face champion.  ALSO, this is one of the few heels I can imagine winning, so that’s playing on this prediction too.

CM Punk vs. JBL

JBL’s great on the mic, but when it comes to the ring work, he’s getting older and reportedly has a bad back to boot, so I can’t see him becoming RAW’s main title holder.  Also thinking about future feuds, I can more realistically see CM Punk defending against Jericho easier than I can see JBL defending against Cena or Batista AGAIN.

Triple H vs. The Great Khali

I think if anyone can pull an entertaining match out of Khali, it’s HHH.  I’m not saying it’ll be good, or even passable, but at least better than the Punjabi Genie’s previous bouts against others like Kane and Batista.

John Cena vs. Batista

This is going to be a huge match, and while it too hasn’t had the longest feud leading into it, I think the star power and ‘special attraction’ness of it makes up for it.  These two have come very far very fast, and while they’re not known for their great wrestling ability, I think it’ll still be a really good match.  I’m mainly picking Batista to win because I think he needs more of a rub than Cena, though I could see Cena winning too.

Edge vs. Undertaker

In probably the hardest match to call in the night, I think I’m picking Edge to win.  I REALLY have trouble seeing Taker coming back just to lose to Edge, but I think in order to sell Edge’s new, ruthless angle, the Rated R Superstar will have to put the Deadman out.  I can even see this happening without any outside interference, but I think Edge will have to cheat or at least cut corners a little bit to win.  Also influencing my opinion is that this will be one more heel win for the show, and more importantly, I see this leading to a possible Wrestlemania 25 main event of Triple H vs. Edge!

That’s right, I’m calling it now!  Triple H vs. Edge at Wrestlemania 25 for the WWE title.  Bold prediction?  Maybe not?  Then maybe Jericho vs. Cena for the World Title at WM 25?  Mark Henry vs. Tony Atlas for the ECW Title?  Alright, I think I’m out of predictions.  I think it’ll be a great show though, and while I won’t personally be watching it, I look forward to reading all the results.

Thanks for reading,

-James

Thoughts of WWE, August 8th 2008

on August 8, 2008 at 4:53 pm

Hey everybody!

So, sorry again for the unusually absent strips!  Schoolwork, power outages, and day trips to Savannah have been getting the best of me as of late, but hopefully that’s all behind me now.  And I feel ESPECIALLY bad now because I just saw there was a jump in pageviews the two days I missed my updates.  But I do want to say thanks to all of you loyal readers for coming back over and over again and thanks for the support!  I do appreciate it, because it’s always a great motivator for me.  Also thanks for spreading the word, or however I got so many new views, because that is always great to see!

BUT despite being busy with schoolwork, one nice distraction was that I went to the ECW/ Smackdown taping this last Tuesday here in Atlanta!  For the low price of forty dollars (plus a ten dollar handling fee, twenty dollars for parking, four dollar coke, and a twenty five dollar Edge shirt) I was able to get into the Philips Arena and see all the wrestling I could stand!

Okay, so longtime readers (or people who have been reading for the past two months) may recall back in June I went to a RAW house show in Redding, California.  So now you may be wondering what the difference is between watching wrestling at a show in Northern California and in Georgia is.  Jesus, do people love the Hardys down South!  I mean people liked Jeff a lot in CA, but during the whole show there were “We want Hardy” chants during slow matches or commercial breaks.  Not Triple H, not Hornswaggle.  Also a fair bit of “WOOOOOing”.

Another difference was in the CA shows I’ve been to (including a few RAW shows in Sacramento) if fans weren’t into a match they just would just sit in silence.  At the show last Tuesday, poor Braden Walker (aka Wildcat Chris Harris from TNA) and James Curtis desperately tried to put on an entertaining match while the crowd LOUDLY chanted “THIS IS BORING *CLAPCLAPCLAP*”.

UPDATE:  And… yikes… I just found out that they both were JUST released yesterday and today!  Is this blood on MY hands, being one of the crowd that treated them so poorly?  Hell no, I kept my mouth shut!  Sorry Bradon!

But overall ECW was a fun show to watch, even considering the fact that I haven’t watched it in a while.  The best match of ECW was when the team of Chavo Guerrero and Bam Neely fought Evan Bourne (who got a REALLY good pop) and Atlas Ortiz (aka Atlas DaBone- no relation to Rad Bad of course!  HAha, oh I hope I don’t get sued…).  Also fun was the LIVE edition of The Dirt Sheet where John Morrison and The Miz got into it with Mark Henry, Tony Atlas and Matt Hardy.

Smackdown was a good show too.  I’ll try to keep this spoiler-free since it hasn’t aired yet, but I will say there was an AWESOME match between Jeff Hardy and Shelton Benjamin that is definitely worth checking out.  Other than that there were a few alright matches, a handful of black roses and one Broken Glass Arm Wrestling match, which made up for an okay show.

While the best part of the night was Jeff vs. Shelton, there were a few good dark matches too, including Kenny Dykstra vs. R. Truth (aka Ron Killings from TNA who got  a good pop from the crowd), Triple H vs. Vladimir Kozlov, and right after that Triple H vs. Edge.

So the whole event was pretty fun overall, and well worth the money paid to see it.  Whether cheering, booing, or chanting “boring”, the crowd seemed passionate about everything that happened, and that always helps the experience.  It will be interesting to see how the shows play out on air though with the announcer shake up of Tazz replacing Mick Foley and Matt Striker replacing Tazz on ECW.

But anyway, thanks for reading and welcome to any new readers!

-James Hornsby
