Thoughts of 2008, December 22nd, 2008

on December 22, 2008 at 8:00 am

Hey Everyone!

I hope you are all having a good end to 2008.  Despite all the end of the year festivities, I plan to still plug along and produce strips through the holiday season.  Is it because I am so devoted?  Or perhaps I have no life?  I’ll let you decide.

This strip starts a bunch of prediction strips I’ll be doing for the world of wrestling in 2009.  Personally, I enjoyed 2008 as a wrestling fan.  Of course when compared to the injury/ death/ Benoit plagued year of 2007 it couldn’t get much worse, but I think 2008 held up pretty well on its own merit.  Some wrestlers became World Champs that many were never sure would make it.  Jericho did a great job reinventing himself, being the heel that I think RAW really needed.  And even though there were still a fair share of injuries, there still managed to be some good feuds like Edge vs. Undertaker and HBK vs. Jericho.  Sure, there were some low points too, but overall nothing TOO bad, I don’t think.  Well, maybe Mike Adamle, but at least that provided some good laughs.

As for what I’m looking forward to in 2009, I think since his comeback Orton has been better than ever so I’m eager to see how the Legacy comes out.  Also Angle and Christian’s rumored interest to return to the WWE has me fairly interested in what’s coming up.  Other than that though, I can’t say I have too much more to look forward to in wrestling.  It’s still early, but I feel like so much happened in 2008, I don’t know what underdog to root for to win the big one in 09, or even really what the Wrestlemania card will be like.

I hoping for the best though, and don’t plan on stopping watching anytime soon.  Thanks for reading, and happy holidays!

-James

Thoughts of WWE December 10th, 2008

on December 10, 2008 at 3:59 pm

This was kind of my reaction to all of the message board postings that I saw about the Slammys being rigged.  Is anyone really that surprised?  It’s not like the WWE ever said that the awards would be based off of fan voting- or ANY voting for that matter.  And other than Kozlov, none of the winners gave me the feeling that they were shoving something down my throat.  If Cena and HHH won all the awards, then I’d feel a little different, but it seemed fairly spread out (although I do think that Santino got screwed).

Overall I thought the show was alright.  The high points for me were CM Punk and Miz and Morrison’s acceptance speeches.  However, nothing from the show even compared to the greatness that was yesterday’s news about Joey Styles punching out JBL.  Given that JBL is about three times the size of Styles, I’m a little skeptical of the news, but it’s really awesome if it’s true.  I don’t even hate JBL that much, it’s just a cool ‘revenge of the nerds’ type of story, but with forty year olds instead of teenagers.

Thoughts of WWE December 8th, 2008

on December 8, 2008 at 8:00 am

I really do like Kennedy.   But you think he might like to at least take a break from interviews after his whole steroid fiasco.  I know it’s been over a year since he lost all of his IWC support by sticking his foot in his mouth, but somehow I still cringe whenever I see that he’s done another interview.  Especially when he’s talking about his injuries.  I haven’t done a tally of all the injuries he’s suffered compared to everyone else, but it at least seems like he’s had more than the average superstar.  Maybe it’s just because of the horrible timing on all of them that his just stand out more.  I mean, missing out on a title run when he was Mr. Money in the Bank?  That’s seems worth a few injuries anyway.

However, if time proves him to be “snake bit”, I have to say that I think he’d be a pretty good backstage interviewer or possibly color commentator for the WWE.  I think his strong point is definitely his mic skills and it’d be a shame for them to go to waste if he couldn’t keep wrestling.  I guess I can keep getting my fix in his straight to DVD releases.

I do like him a lot though.  Enough to see “Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia”?  Eh… we’ll see.

Thanks for reading, and have fun watching the slammies.  Yay.
