Format Change!

on April 13, 2009 at 1:53 pm

Hey everybody!

As you may have noticed, today my strip looks a little different…  Larger.  More to it.  Why?  Well the short answer is that I am feeling tired of working with 3-4 panel comic strips and want to do full sized pages for a while.  Actually, that’s the long answer too.  For a while now I’ve been thinking about making this change.  I had a lot of fun doing the short comic strips this past year, and I may go back to it again, but for the time being I want to keep working at this larger format while doing this longer ongoing story about Olav’s past.  Don’t worry, fans of Rad Bad- he’ll be in there too!  And as for Russell… I don’t know if he has any fans, but he might wind up in the story as well.

I envision doing this story for a couple of months (I hope I don’t end up eating those words).  I’ll keep the same Monday, Wednesday, Friday update schedule too.

Let me know what you guys think about this change, both with the larger format and doing an ongoing wrestling story instead of single gag jokes about the WWE.  From what I’ve heard from readers thus far, people usually like the comic strips with Olav and Rad Bad DeBone better than the WWE jokes, but that could be only a small percentage of fans!

So thanks for reading!

-James

Wrestlemania 25 Predictions…

on April 9, 2009 at 9:19 pm

Wow, I really sucked it up at those predictions!  In the past I’ve done pretty well with predicting Wrestlemanias, but somehow 25 escaped me.  Even though some of the results were unexpected, I can’t really say I was pleasantly surprised by all of them.  CM Punk winning the MitB match again was a little blah to me, as was Rey and JBL’s ridiculously short match.  I really think Morrison and Miz should have been the ones to unify the tag belts, and now I’m worried they’ll get split up at the draft.  I did like Matt winning his match with that brutal twist of fate, and Santino made the diva’s match worth watching even without Trish.  While I’ll never doubt that Undertaker will win at Wrestlemania, Shawn Michaels made it seem believable that he might actually pull through.  The biggest shock to me was seeing how incredibly good Ricky the Dragon Steamboat is though!  I had heard that he was still in shape, but I didn’t believe it until he was actually in the ring with Jericho.  The show had it’s moments though, and I’m glad I watched.

Wrestlemania 25 Predictions

Wrestlemania Predictions!

Tag Team Unification Match

Morrison and The Miz

As a big Morrison and The Miz fan, I’m pretty biased in picking these two for the win.  Even trying to be objective though, it’s hard to ignore that they won two slammy’s (which I know are worked, but at least show that the WWE has confidence in them) and have been wrestling on almost every show as of late.

Money in the Bank

Shelton Benjamin

I usually look forward to this match at Wrestlemania but after seeing the 8 men in the match wrestle in about every tag match combination possible, and seeing them all be shown as potential winners (eliminating my excitement over a dark horse) I’m not as excited about it.  For most of the competitors I feel like their time for title shots has come and gone (Finlay, Mark Henry, Kane).  I think Kofi’s still too new, CM Punk just won last year, and my money was on MVP until he won the US Title.  Not that any of that eliminates them, but I think it lessens their chances.  I’d like to see Christian win, but it seems like once a week a new article shows up on news sites about McMahon hating him.  Shelton is still a long shot, but I think they may finally be ready to try him out in the main event.  So my official prediction is Shelton, but I wouldn’t be surprised if any of them won.  Except for Mark Henry.

Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy

Jeff Hardy

I think the Hardy’s will pull out all the stops for this match and I’m looking forward to it.  I’m not the biggest fan of either brother, but I think they won’t disappoint.  I think Jeff will win to put an end to the feud so one of them can move on in the draft.

Intercontinental Championship Match

JBL

I’m voting for JBL because I think Rey will be drafted to Smackdown at the next draft and I don’t see him take the IC title with him.  Also JBL just won the title and he keeps teasing a big announcement of some kind?  I hope he retires from wrestling with the title and goes on to replace Tazz as color commentator for Smackdown.

Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker

The Undertaker.

This is the match I am looking forward to the most at Wrestlemania.  Two legends locking up… I would never bet against Undertaker at Wrestlemania, especially not when he’s facing someone who doesn’t need the rub, but even so the way Shawn’s been one upping Taker for the last several shows solidifies Taker’s win in my mind.

Chris Jericho vs. Legends

Legends

For me this has gone from one of the most interesting matches at Mania to one of the least.  There’s no doubt that Jericho’s one of the best, and I’ll never disrespect the Hall of Famers he’s facing, but…. the last time we saw Snuka and Piper in the ring they were not good.  Maybe Steamboat can pull through, he was amazing back in his heyday.

25 Divas Battle Royal

Trish Stratus.

If Santino’s in this it could be a classic.  If not… I won’t be that interested.  I don’t think Beth Phoenix needs the win, her dominance is already well established.  I’d like to see Mickie James win, but for whatever reason she’s barely been on at all lately.  No other diva really stands out as a sure winner of “Miss Wrestlemania” in my mind.  Maybe Melina or Michelle McCool.  I don’t think Trish has even been announced yet, but I can’t imagine her not being in a match this huge considering her impact on the diva’s division and if she is in, I’m sure she’ll win.

World Title Match- John Cena vs. Edge vs. Big Show

John Cena.

After so much focus on the idea that Show and Edge are fighting over Vickie but only the noble John Cena is fighting for the TITLE, I have to predict Cena winning.  I would rather see Big Show win for something new, but I think Cena as the sole face in the match will come away with the gold.

WWE Championship Match

Triple H.

I really see Triple H winning this match.  While I’d be fine with either person winning, I’d rather see Orton win just to change things a bit.  The title has become secondary in this feud and I think it will be more satisfying just to see HHH beat up on Orton, win or lose.

I am excited about watching the whole thing though.  I think every match has the potential to be entertaining if not a technically good wrestling match (I’m looking at you, Divas Battle Royal!).  Even though a lot of the matches have been done before, and I don’t think all the build up to the matches was that good, I think by the time I sit down and watch it it’ll be a fun experience.

Thanks for reading,

-James
