Wrestlemania 26 Predictions

on March 27, 2010 at 6:59 pm

Wrestlemania 26 is probably the first Wrestlemania in a while where I’ve been looking forward to all of the matches (except one). They’ve crammed a lot in there and seem to have gotten almost all of their wrestlers involved somehow without having any battle royals or lumberjack matches or anything. I think it’ll be a good show that’s had a lot of good build up to matches, more so than previous years, and I look forward to seeing if it all pays off. So… here are predictions!

Black Magic and The White Shadow vs. ShowMiz
I’ve always been a fan of both Morrison and the Miz (except when Miz was doing his Host of Smackdown/ Diva Search host thing) and while I’m looking forward to this match, I have to admit I would like to see them both pursue singles careers rather than go back to tag teams. I think ShowMiz will win though, as they are slightly less thrown together than Truth and Wisdom (or whatever they’re called).

CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio
I love CM Punk’s Straight Edge Society gimmick, but I don’t think Mysterio’s the perfect opponent in a character sense to fight Punk, at least in the way Jeff Hardy was. I think they’ll still have a good match and I think it’ll be used to push Punk’s character further rather than end it, so I see Punk winning.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match
I think there are too many guys in this match, and the majority do not seem like legitimate title contenders right now (in a character/ storyline sense, not necessarily skill). These are always fun matches though and I’m sure that even if guys like Evan Bourne don’t have a chance of winning, they’ll still pull off cool spots with ladders. I see Kofi, Christian, or Drew McIntyre winning, and out of them I think Drew has the best shot, mainly because he’s been talking of the importance of it the most with all of his qualifying matches.

Randy Orton vs. Ted DiBiase vs. Cody Rhodes
I feel like this feud peaked about three months ago. The most interesting part of it to me isn’t who wins, but if Randy Orton will be booked as a face considering how much he gets cheered over Ted and Cody. I think Ted will win, but a few years from now everyone will remember it being Randy.

Bret Hart vs. Vince McMahon
I can’t imagine any way that Bret would agree to this match if Vince would win. While Bret certainly hasn’t looked his best on RAW since his return, I think they’ll still have some fun going on in this match. Taking it for what it is, I’m sure it’ll be good.

Triple H vs. Sheamus
This is the one match I don’t really care about. I guess Triple H will win.

World Heavyweight Title match: Edge vs. Jericho
I love Edge. He is my all time favorite wrestler. But honestly, the spear chanting is really starting to bug me. He’s great on his own, so I don’t understand why they need to make such a big deal out of his finisher. My head tells me Jericho will most likely win, but I can’t ever predict against Edge, so…. Spear.

Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker
I don’t see Undertaker’s streak ever ending, and if it does end, I don’t think it’ll be by anyone as close to retirement as Shawn. After seeing Ric Flair pop back up in TNA it’s hard to take retirements too seriously, and I hope this isn’t really HBK’s last match.

WWE Title match: Batista vs. Cena
I feel like the build to this has been fast, but effective, and both these guys seem to impress in big matches. I think Cena will win to close the show on a high note.

Random Divas match?
Beth Phoenix, whether she’s in a singles match/ tag team or other.

NXT- Tap or Snap

on March 12, 2010 at 8:00 am

I cannot fully explain how much I enjoy NXT. I know the rating went down a little this week, and Miz mentoring Daniel Bryan turned off a lot of people at the start, but damn, I love it. Watching the “Monday Night Wars” between RAW and Impact last Monday was good… I liked having another show to change the channel to when something less than interesting came on (like Sting’s never ending beatdown on RVD and anything with Chris Angel and Hornswoggle), but nothing really grabbed me like NXT does.

I think there are a couple of reasons why… and it’s not just to see if Barrett has figured out how to wear a jacket. Part of the reason is that with wrestling in general I’m usually more interested in watching younger, newer guys come up rather than watching established main eventers. I’m going to try to avoid going on any Hogan/ Nasty Boys/ Undertaker rants, but seeing if someone new will make it big, fade into obscurity, or get stuck in midcard limbo always interests me more.

Also, and I hate to sound like a mark, but NXT leaves me wondering what’s “real” and what’s scripted more often than the other wrestling shows out there. I know matches are planned, promos are written by creative teams… but the feud built on the more experienced Daniel Bryan being insulted by the Miz grabs me way more as a realistic feud than Undertaker wanting Shawn Michael’s soul.

It’s still early in the show’s run, but so far in my opinion it’s the best wrestling show WWE has to offer. I love the mentor/ pupil teams and the fact that they don’t break kayfabe. I will say that some of the rookies like Skip Sheffield, Heath Slater, and Michael Tarver don’t interest me nearly as much as guys like Otunga, Barrett, and Bryan, but it’s still early in the season. I hope it catches on with more of the WWE fans though, because with the rating from the third episode dropping so much it could make NXT tap or snap. …That doesn’t make much sense, so I guess I’ll just say “get cancelled.”

Two Year Anniversary

on March 3, 2010 at 10:21 am

Two years in the bag! I know in the grand scheme of things it’s not that long, many other webcomics have made it, but it feels impressive to me, considering for a while I wasn’t sure I’d make it this far. I’m really grateful for everyone who reads my comic, from those who’ve been reading from the beginning to those who just started. I wouldn’t be doing this if there was no one to see it, so thank you all for reading!

I’m celebrating the occasion by watching wrestling DVDs all day. I’m starting with “The Spectacular Legacy of the AWA”, then I’ll probably work into Macho Madness, Rey Mysterio: Little Big Man, and then maybe Wrestlemania 8. But for now it’s Verne Gagne beating up Baron von Raschke.
