Money in the Bank 2011 Predictions

on July 16, 2011 at 10:49 pm

So “Money in the Bank” is taking place tomorrow. While I’m still not too big on a whole PPV based around this match as it is always something I look forward to at Wrestlemania, the CM Punk controversy has me interested enough to check it out. And with two title matches and two MITB ladder matches, there are a lot of variables going on even without Punk’s contract situation. Alright, so here are my predictions:

Smackdown MITB Ladder Match:

Sheamus is my pick to grab the blue briefcase. His constant interference in the World Title scene makes him the most obvious choice to win, and that’s kinda what I expect from the WWE. I’d rather see a win from Daniel Bryan, Wade Barrett, or Cody Rhodes, to see a non-former champion challenge for the title (although not to necessarily win). I still don’t get how Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel snuck into this. It makes me wish they took the number of participants back down to six like the first couple of Money in the Bank ladder matches.

Divas Title Match:

I’m guessing Kelly successfully defends her title against Brie Bella to keep the crowd happy.

Raw MITB Ladder Match:

There’s been a long running rumor that the WWE wants Alberto Del Rio to fight Cena at Summerslam, and I think this is how it’s going to happen. Most all of the MITB cash ins have been cheap wins on injured opponents, but I think Del Rio’s going to change this pattern by announcing it’s his “destiny” to win the WWE championship in the main event of Summerslam.

Big Show vs. Mark Henry

I’m guessing Mark Henry’s winning in order to keep the feud going a little longer.

World Heavyweight Championship Match: Randy Orton vs. Christian

My prediction is that Christian finally beats Orton by cheating behind the ref’s back, only to have the Smackdown MITB winner cash in their title shot on him and beat Christian for the title. It seems like a guarantee that at least ONE of the briefcases will be cashed in the night of the PPV and after the commotion caused by Christian’s first brief title run, I think WWE will try to make a trending topic out of Captain Charisma again by screwing him out of the title one more time.

WWE Championship Match: John Cena vs. CM Punk

I’m predicting Cena wins 100% clean in the middle of the ring. Since Cena beat Miz for the title back at Extreme Rules, I’ve firmly believed Cena’s holding the belt until Wrestlemania for his match with the Rock. Now that’s not what I’m HOPING will happen, I just believe the powers that be want the match to be as big as possible and this whole year leading up to Wrestlemania will be Cena beating his rouges gallery in preparation of the big challenge.

The current situation with CM Punk makes it seem like they’d have to change plans, but they already let R-Truth’s crazy heel turn fall by the wayside despite it catching on. I think CM Punk will follow through with his plans to leave, and he’ll get one hell of a push when he comes back, but I don’t think it will effect his match at Money in the Bank. I hope I’m wrong!

Botched Spot, Back from the Break

on July 13, 2011 at 7:09 pm

After a long, long, hiatus, Botched Spot is finally back! Late last year I announced that I was going to be taking some time off from this website to finish my thesis paper. When I said that I had no idea how long it would take, or if I’d even be coming back at all. I hated leaving what was basically my main form of artistic expression to work on something that I’d come to hate so much, but if I didn’t finish my thesis by August, I wouldn’t finish my degree, and then I’d be stuck paying student loans with nothing to show for it…. Blah.

But no one comes to wrestling themed websites to hear people complain about student loans, they come to hear people complain about wrestling. And there’s a lot to complain about considering the way things have changed. When I started my break at the end of last year John Cena was in a match where he would be fired if he lost and now he’s… well, okay, maybe not that much has changed.

Actually, I’ve been enjoying RAW lately. Not so much going match-by-match and segment-by-segment, but the highlights of CM Punk’s rants have me looking forward to Money in the Bank. The main event and two ladder matches should make it worthwhile, I just don’t know if I want to actually pay the money to watch it at home or if I’ll go down to a sports bar to see it.

But, much like the Rock, Botched Spot is back. Not with millions and millions of fans, but I hope to get some of you back. I’m sorry it’s taken this long, but I’ve finished my degree, I’m back to doing Botched Spot, and I’m going to try and keep up the M-W-F update schedule. Thanks for reading!

-James

Botched Spot… On Hiatus… Again.

on December 6, 2010 at 8:27 pm

Back in August I announced I would be taking a month long break from Botched Spot in order to get the latest draft of my thesis complete to try and finish my degree. For that month I did nothing but research, write, rewrite, and turn out what I thought was a solid thesis paper that would be easily accepted. My thesis committee did not agree. Three months later and I’ve finally heard back from all the professors on my committee and while they didn’t tear it to shreds as much as the draft before it, they still made it clear that some major revisions would be in order.

I’ve been trying to work on my thesis and Botched Spot for a while now, but balancing them (and a fulltime job and other social obligations related to the holidays) has resulted in my thesis being pushed further and further back and hardly any work getting done on it. The problem with that is that my thesis paper has a definite deadline on it that’s coming up in less than a year, and I really need to kick ass on it and finish it. Botched Spot is incredibly important to me, but it doesn’t have such a deadline.

So in short, I will be taking another hiatus from Botched Spot. I hope to still post things occasionally and be back early next year, but I can’t give a definite date. I really hate doing this, but it’s just something I’ve got to take care of or else I’ll be paying way too much money for way too long in student loans with no degree to show for it. So thank you for reading thus far and I hope everyone understands (and will come back when I return).

…And just so I say something about wrestling in this, I retract my earlier statement about Miz being an awesome champion if his title defenses again 61-year-old inactive wrestlers continue.
