Alright so today’s comic was pretty negative, I won’t deny it. What can I say, the Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus match pissed me off! And while it was a bad start to Wrestlemania, for me anyway, it doesn’t mean I hated the whole show. Anyone who listened to my appearance on BoredWrestlingFan.com’s Wrestlemania roundtable podcast and heard my predictions knows that I did pretty terribly when it came to guessing the winners and losers. Let’s take a closer look:

World Heavyweight Title match- I guessed Bryan to win and was wrong!

I thought Bryan would win to help prolong the feud, but I was quite wrong. I’m guessing the WWE thought a quick face win would help get the crowd excited and give a feeling that anything could happen.

Randy Orton vs. Kane- I picked Orton to win and was wrong!

I was in shock for most of this due to the previous match, but from what I remember there was nothing that really stood out to me about it other than the end. I really didn’t expect Randy to lose and it was a pleasant surprise.

Intercontinental Title Match- I picked Rhodes to win and was wrong!

While normally I’m all against ring vets beating younger stars for titles (especially cleanly) and I don’t think Show needs the title at all, for some reason this outcome didn’t bother me. I liked Show’s emotional reaction to winning the title (which had hardly been mentioned at all in the feud) and I’m glad Cody still looked strong throughout the whole thing.

Diva’s Match- I picked Kelly Kelly and Maria Menounos to win and was right!

Finally, I guessed one right! Of course it seems pretty obvious that the celebrity is going over. While that’s not the outcome I wanted, I was impressed with Maria being in there as long as she was. I also got a kick out of her makeup skidmark.

Hell in a Cell End of an Era match- I picked Undertaker to win and was right!

Alright so this was another easy guess. I liked this match a lot more than last year’s, and while it was entertaining, some of the melodrama like Shawn completely overselling kickouts was a little much to me. I’m glad Taker won definitively though so we can avoid any “you won the battle but I won the war” comments from Triple H. I also wish Taker had revealed his shaved head earlier in the year. He now looks like more of a badass in my opinion whereas the hood looked silly and his scraggly, thinning long hair looked like he was trying to hide his age. I was also glad that they got color hardway instead of blading. Even though it’s less blood, I think it looks more like damage from a real fight than when they’ve got a full crimson mask going.

Team Laurinaitis vs. Team Long- I picked Team Johnny to win and was right!

I can’t say I’m sad to see Teddy go. Laurinaitis running things with Otunga as his coffee drinking yes man seems way more relatable to me and far more realistic than Teddy using his bizarre catchphrases. The match was alright for the time it was given. The crowd seemed pretty dead for most of it, and I can’t blame them when you consider what it followed.

WWE Title Match- I picked CM Punk to win and was right!

This match was pretty much everything I was hoping it would be. They had me a little worried after Laurinaitis made the extra disqualification stipulation that it would dominate the match, but it only seemed to be brought up during the first few minutes. This was probably my pick for match of the night.

Once in a Lifetime Rock vs. Cena- I picked Cena to win and was wrong!

If you had told me that Rock was winning the match before I actually saw it, I probably would have been really pissed off. I was so sure that Cena would win, pretty much for all the reasons he said he needed to win. Mainly because he’s here all the time and Rock’s just visiting to promote movies and tweet about it. The match was actually pretty good though and I was impressed with how the Rock didn’t seem to suffer from ring rust. Not that I was expecting him to trip and fall out of the ring, but I wasn’t expecting as much of the actual wrestling to happen. Seeing Cena’s expression at the end where he looked a little lost and disappointed in himself also makes me think his character is about to get far more interesting than it would have been if he’d won.

So that’s Wrestlemania 28. While it took me a while to get over the opener, I can admit that the rest of the show was still alright. If Bryan and Sheamus were even given a decent little ten minute match I probably would have thought this ‘Mania was pretty good. And as far as predictions go, my official score for the night stands at 50%. Not great, but I guess it means I at least got some surprises out of it.
