The Future of ECW

So I understand that Shane Douglas is planning another ECW Reunion show. I’ve been listening to his interview with Between the Ropes about it, and while his passion is obviously there and he has big ideas in mind, I can’t help but think of the other ECW reunions/relaunches through TNA and WWE and wonder if five years from now we’ll be hearing other ECW originals talk about how this most recent Extreme Reunion didn’t capture the original magic of the brand. I wish him luck and if it’s available online I’ll watch it, but how long can this ECW cycle really go on for?

    Brilliant

It’s kinda unfortunate that a lot of fans and some of the wrestlers just can’t let things be. Was it particularly glamorous the way ECW went out? No. Were there some great wrestling memories made before that? Oh, yes. It weirds me out as someone who was a fan of ECW to see a lot of these guys that just can’t really go anymore try to grasp at a glory that really can’t be grasped again.

ECW died a really sad death and all of these reunion specials won’t do it justice. But when I saw that hideous WWE Network dubstep commerical, I literally jumped for joy when I saw a little ECW logo in the commerical. A new generation of fans who probably have never even seen a hardcore match will be able to witness all the gory glory, and the rest of us can fall in love all over again.

I agree, Ryan, a whole new generation can enjoy ECW, WCW and Raw is War while keeping us old fans happy.

    New Breed Unleashed indeed!

  5. Joe Says:

I’d like to know. Was ECW bigger or smaller than TNA right now?

  6. Paul Says:

So, who the heck is that supposed to be? Spike Dudley?

  7. Chris C. Says:

    It’s Shane Douglas.

Joe, I think at it’s peak ECW, though not as big as WCW or WWF/E, was bigger than TNA and will have a waaay longer legacy in the industry. Whenever you see ironic signs at a WWE event, or hear the phrases “Holy Shit,” or “You Fucked Up!” all of those things originated in ECW.
